WINCHESTER residents face traffic delays this week due to engineering works in Bar End.
Southern Electric (SSE) is carrying out urgent repairs to cables in Bar End Road over the next few days.
A spokesman for the company said the cable had been damaged, although engineers could not identify a cause.
He said: “It's just one of these things where the cable is damaged and we need to make a new connection to restore the supply. The good news is no customers will be taken off supply.”
Works were due to start on Tuesday (June 18) but were delayed due to problems positioning the temporary signals near a pedestrian crossing.
The spokesman added: “The temporary lights impinge on the pelican crossing so our contractor met the council and highways authority to agree how to proceed and the pelican crossing lights will be turned off while the temporary lights are in place to avoid safety risks.”
The works begin on Wednesday (June 19) and will take place between 9am to 4pm each day. They should be completed by Saturday (June 22).
