THE odd downpour didn’t dampen the spirits of the 400 people who joined in the fun at the St Peter’s School Summer Fete in Winchester on Saturday.
Parents, children, staff and the local community poured through the school gates to enjoy dance and music displays from the schoolchildren.
The fete was officially opened by local MP, Steve Brine who was joined by school head, Cath Howells.
Whilst at the fete, Steve took part in a penalty shoot-out competition run by ex-pupils and sampled some of the many food stalls.
Mr Brine said: “I get invited to attend or open lots of fetes so I feel after all these years I can spot a good one and St Peter’s certainly did that. Everyone made us feel totally welcome and part of the school community which was very much appreciated. I have to say also, I have never attended an event in my constituency with a more exciting and international choice of food – all deliciously cooked by parents.”
Later in the afternoon, the new Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Ernie Jeffs and the mayoress Barbara also joined in the fun and games where they watched an enthusiastic Tug of War challenge and pupils (and parents) Country Dancing.
All monies raised will contribute towards the School Playground Improvement Project.
