THE wind whipped up the bunting, the gazeboes groaned and coats were buttoned up.
But villagers in Old Alresford were determined to have a good time at their annual village fair on Saturday. (JUNE 15) Amid the showers and sunshine, hundreds gathered on the green for the quintessential summer British pastime.
The event is an occasion for the village to get together; although it has the Christy Hall, long gone are the school and the shop.
There was old and new. As ever, homemade honey and second hand books were for sale and children enjoyed hoopla and the swing boats that looked as if they were cutting edge in Edwardian times.
But there was also a bouncy castle and a duck race along the stream that runs through the village.
There was also a popular dog show, with the audience sitting around on hay bales, and four slightly forlorn looking lambs in a pen.
