WINCHESTER’S leading Neighbourhood Watch representative has warned that some areas of the city are completely uncovered.
Sandie Vining said: “I have got about 80 volunteers covering two thousand homes in the City Gate area, but in some areas there are hardly any.
“There are none in Winnall and none in Weeke.”
Ms Vining was addressing city councillors at Winchester Town Forum on Wednesday (June 12).
The warning came in the run-up to National Neighbourhood Watch week, which runs from June 15 to June 23.
The week also marks the launch of a new website for the Winchester and East Hampshire area which will provide volunteers with information, advice, maps and locations of current schemes in the city.
Meanwhile police chiefs are to meet Neighbourhood Watch representatives from all over the county at Sparsholt College on Saturday, June 22.
Watch co-ordinators will be joined by Hampshire Constabulary’s chief constable, Andy Marsh, and police and crime commissioner Simon Hayes.
Attendees will also hear a series of presentations such as ‘Scams and how to keep safe’ from Jane Gulliver of Trading Standards, and ‘Understanding sentencing’ from local magistrate Helen Gaskill JP.
