WE’VE been betrayed by Romsey’s MP.
That was the message Fathers4Justice campaigners had for the people of Romsey today.
Clad in black t-shirts with the slogan ‘iDad every child deserves one’ about a dozen members of the group descended on the town in a bid to highlight their campaign for equal parenting rights.
Nadine O’Connor said the group had been badly let down by Caroline Nokes who promised before the last General Election that she would help Fathers4Justice get laws changed – allowing dads of broken relationships improved access to their children.
Mrs O’Connor accused the MP of going back on her word and has called on Miss Nokes to resign.
“She’s broken her promises to 38,000 members of Fathers4Justice. As soon as she was elected, she did a U-turn on this issue. I now question whether she is in the right job,” said Nadine, who is a married to Matt O’Connor who founded Fathers4Justice in 2001. Matt used a loud hailer to draw townspeople’s attention to their plight. Sitting in the front passenger seat of a car being driven around the town’s streets Matt announced ‘We are Fathers4Justice and we are looking for Caroline Nokes MP’ who was visiting Eastleigh College while the group were drumming up the public’s support in Romsey.
The group had planned to hand Miss Nokes a pair of giant pants at Romsey’s Tory HQ in the Market Place in protest at her broken promises.
Some members of the public complained that the sound system used by Mr O’Connor was too loud and at least one swore at him.
