IT was billed as the Big Lunch.
And thanks to glorious weather and the hard work of residents, West View House’s community lunch was also a big success.
More than 50 people from the Hyde area were involved, as locals shared homemade food in a show of community spirit in the grounds of the sheltered housing.
Project worker molly Edwards said the day would not have been possible without the help of Heidi de Quincey, Cllr Dominic Hiscock and Nigel Bradshaw.
“West View House residents were overwhelmed by the turnout of people and were proud to be part of such a successful community event. Staff and residents would like to thank everyone who was involved in The Big Lunch for making it such a special and memorable day,” she said.
As well as food and music, the lunch held on June 2 offered a chance for Hyde residents to see how vulnerable people are supported in Winchester.
The first Big Lunch took place in 2009 with the aim of getting as many people throughout the country to have lunch with their neighbours once a year in a simple act of friendship.
