A WORKSHOP in Wickham is designed to help care workers reduce the risk of the elderly falling over.
Run by Hampshire County Council and aimed at staff and volunteers who work with older people, the half-day ‘falls prevention’ workshops are free for voluntary and community groups.
Falling can be a traumatic experience leading to a loss of independence and confidence – the workshop will offer guidance on falls prevention, motivation and goal-setting with older people.
It will also look at the benefits of exercise for general health. The next workshop will take place at Wickham Community Centre on June 26, from 2pm to 5pm and will provide instructions on “Better Balance for Life” exercises which can maintain flexibility and reduce the likelihood of a fall.
Each organisation attending will receive a training pack which includes exercise leaflets, DVDs of the exercises and a CD of music.
