FINAL preparations are under way for one of the area’s oldest and most popular carnivals.

Thousands are expected to line the streets of Copythorne tomorrow (Saturday) for the village’s 66th annual carnival procession. Villagers will be putting on their fancy dress costumes and competing against each other for the top awards.

Floats and walking exhibits are due to leave the Scout Field in Romsey Road at 5pm for the 90-minute parade through Copythorne parish, which includes Cadnam, Bartley and Winsor.

Carnival Queen, Casey Clarke and her attendants, Emily Garrett and Ellie Wareham, will be in the procession.

Before the procession, there will be an afternoon of entertainment at the Scout Field, including trek cart racing involving teams from the Scouts and a fun dog show.

A steam and vintage rally will be held in the village on Sunday.

And visitors will also be able to take a trip in a vintage bus from the parish hall to Scout Field.
