IT does not get any better than education at Whiteley primary school.
That is the verdict of inspectors who ranked the school as outstanding – the highest accolade that can be awarded.
Ofsted, the school’s watchdog, visited to the Gull Coppice school and assessed every area of the school’s performance as being the best.
From the head teacher Lesley Pennington who was described as having “inspiring leadership and exceptional drive, to the pupils’ achievement which is well above national average, every aspect of school life was highly praised.
Mrs Lesley Pennington, took up the job in 2011 when the school was previously ranked as ‘good’.
She said: “We are thrilled to be judged as “Outstanding” in all areas. This is an extremely encouraging report and reflects the hard work of our pupils, staff and governors.
“Everyone associated with the school should be incredibly proud of what has been achieved here.
“We use the acronym of ‘SMILE’, with each letter representing an aspect for our vision of the school. SMILE – Success; Mutual respect; Inclusion; Life-long learning; Enrichment). We certainly have something to smile about now!”
The inspection team also noted how the attainment in maths and English in Year 6 had been exceptionally high for the past five years at the school.
The Inspection team noted: “The head teacher has a very clear vision for the school which involves both academic success and excellent opportunities for pupils’ personal development.
Other senior leaders and the governors provide superb support, resulting in a tremendous team spirit.
Members of staff unanimously agree that the school is excellently led and managed, and they know what they are trying to achieve.”
