A HAMPSHIRE road has been closed after a dustcart flipped on to its roof.

Winchester Road in Waltham Chase has been shut after the vehicle overturned this morning.

Three people have been released from the wreckage and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance helicopter has already been and gone from the scene.

Eyewitnesses say the vehicle is on its roof and that it may have collided with a power line.

The road, near Brooklynn Close, is expected to be closed well in to the afternoon while rescue teams attempt to move the large truck back on to its wheels.

Fire crews were called from Bishops Waltham, Wickham and Cosham and are in the process of making the scene safe.

Ambulance and police are also on the scene following the crash, which happened at around 11.15am today. The nature of any injuries sustained is not yet known.

A spokesman for Winchester City Council said: “We are aware of the incident which is being reported in which a waste collection vehicle appears to have overturned at Waltham Chase.

"We understand that emergency services are on the scene and the city council has sent an officer to the site.

"We do not know any details at present but we will work alongside the police and other emergency services to investigate the circumstances.”

It is unclear at this stage whether any other vehicle was involved.
