THE founder of a Winchester theatre company received an award from The Queen last week.
Jane Jessop, founding director of Blue Apple Theatre Company, was presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services at a reception at St James’s Palace on Wednesday, May 29.
Blue Apple, which works with actors with learning disabilities, was the 1,000th recipient of the award.
Ms Jessop said: “It was an honour to meet the Queen and a privilege to represent all the Blue Apple volunteers. I was so pleased to have the opportunity to tell Her Majesty about the life-changing work Blue Apple Theatre does for people with learning disabilities.
“Like many charities, Blue Apple would not exist without its volunteers who help on stage and behind the scenes in so many ways. The Queen's Award recognises the vital contribution of volunteers to the community.”
The event also marked the 10th anniversary of the award scheme and the Diamond Jubilee of The Queen’s coronation.
