A GRANDMOTHER from Winchester died several days after she fell outside a supermarket, an inquest has heard.

Winchester Coroner's Court Mary Robson had moved into the Sunrise Care Home in Stockbridge Road about a month before she fell and hit her head at the Waitrose in Weeke on September 17 that day.

The 87-year old - who had lived most of her life in King's Worthy - had been seen by doctors at Friarsgate Surgery in Stockbridge Road after her fall.

In a letter to the assistant deputy coroner Sarah Whitby, Dr Helen Walters said she had been seen at the surgery after she had fallen but no CCTV showing the incident could be found.

Mrs Robson became ill over the course of the next few days and five days later she was admitted to Southampton General Hospital where she died.

The inquest heard that Mrs Robson suffered from a condition which prevented her blood from clotting quickly.

She had a son, Lee, who now lives in New Jersey with his four children.

Mrs Whitby recorded a verdict of accidental death.

“On the balance of probabilities I think she fell and hit her face,” she said.
