A WINCHESTER pub is hosting a Bank Holiday fundraiser later this month in memory of an Alresford man who died two years ago.
The Slug and Lettuce in The Square has planned a weekend of events to raise money for Comrades of Children Overseas and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Organiser Kyle Allen, assistant manager, is dedicating the event to Alex Watley, who died of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome in December 2011 aged just 23.
He said: “We’ve wanted to host a charity event for some time and it made sense to hold it over the Bank Holiday weekend when we’re usually quite busy.
“Alex was a keen rugby player so we hope that the local rugby teams in the area will pop into the Slug and Lettuce and take part in the activity we’ve organised – both Winchester and Alresford rugby clubs have said that they’ll support the event in whatever way they can by promoting it amongst their players.”
It starts on Friday, May 24 with live music and a raffle for a £50 food and drink tab, in aid of COCO.
Then on Sunday, May 26, the pub hosts a silent auction along with another raffle to raise money for CRY.
All customers will be asked to donate £2 for entry to both nights. For more details visit facebook.com/slugandlettuce.winchester.
