A MOTORCYCLIST has been air lifted to hospital after an accident on the A272 this morning.

A 47-year-old man, riding a KTM motorbike, crashed between Winchester and Cheriton and was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.

It was the only vehicle involved in the crash which took place at 8.15am approaching the turn off for Owslebury, near to Holden Farm.

His injuries were considered to be critical at the time of the accident and he is undergoing scans at the hospital.

The road was closed this morning for about 90 minutes while officers dealt with the accident. The road was reopened at 9.58am.

Officers are trying to determine the cause of the incident.
