WINCHESTER is to host a weekend in honour of the Gurkhas.
One of Britain’s most revered military units will be celebrated at the Holiday Inn over the weekend of May 10.
Gurkhas, enlisted in Nepal to serve alongside British soldiers, have fought extensively, including in two world wars, the Falklands war, and more recently, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The event kicks off on Friday, May 10, with a lecture by the Gurkha Museum curator, followed by dinner in the hotel’s Morn Hill Brasserie.
Saturday, May 11, sees a visit to the museum at Peninsula Barracks, in Winchester, and visitors will enjoy a film, a tour, and drinks in the Medal Room, followed by an authentic Nepalese curry.
The evening will feature a lecture on today’s brigade of Gurkhas, given by Brigadier Ian Rigden. Dinner in the hotel’s Hampshire Suite will follow.
The price of the weekend is £179 per person and £13 from each package sold will be donated to the Gurkha Welfare Trust. For more information, call 0871 9429188.
