THEY are fast becoming one of Winchester's most popular tourist attractions.
But it's not the cathedral or the Great Hall, but a group of painted bollards that are bringing people to the city.
Around 40 of the Amersham Town's Women's Guild made the trip on Monday (april 29) afternoon to see the bollards in The Square, which have been painted by the Colour Factory, a group of Winchester-based artists, recreating some of the world's most famous paintings on the street furniture.
Rachael (corr) Alexander, of the Colour Factory, said: “By choosing iconic paintings to create an outside gallery there is an instant air of familiarity.
“Everyone knows the 'Mona Lisa' by Leonardo Da Vinci but you wouldn't expect to see her reproduced on a bollard.”
Fellow artist Jenny Muncaster added: “It's funny to think what started as a small public arts project in 2005 has become a tourist landmark and is helping us to engage with young people in a fun way.”
