STRONG Tracy Burr 'Right in his Soul' Tracy Burr Strong, Professor of Political Theory and Philosophy at the University of Southampton and Distinguished Professor of Political Science, Emeritus at the University of California, San Diego, died suddenly and unexpectedly at home in Chandler's Ford on 11 May 2022. Born on 6 August 1943 in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in Weixian (Weihsien), China, Strong was educated at the Collde Genbefore attending Oberlin College in Ohio where he fenced foil (B.A., 1963) and at Harvard University (Ph.D., 1968). Author of many books, most recently, Politics Without Vision: Thinking Without a Bannister in the Twentieth Century (2012) and Learning One's Native Tongue: Citizenship, Contestation, and Conflict in America (2019), Strong was a long-time editor of the journal, Political Theory (1990-2000). He is survived by his wife, Babette Babich Strong of Chandlers Ford/New York City, his son David DStrong Franke and daughter-in-law Kristina Johnson of Los Angeles, California, his daughter Anise Keyssar Strong-Morse, son-in-law Adam Strong-Morse and grandchildren, Mclevy, Robert, and Katharine of Kalamazoo, Michigan; a sister Jeanne R. Strong of Langley, Washington, a brother John S. Strong and sister-in-law Sarah M. Strong of Auburn, Maine. He is also survived by his first wife, Penelope Harger of Greenbank, Washington. Tracy was predeceased by his parents and his second wife, Helene Keyssar. Cremation: Southampton, 1 June 2022. Private family funeral. No flowers. Donations to a charity of your personal choice.
