ELVIS Costello comes to The Anvil in Basingstoke for the first time with the Brodsky Quartet on Wednesday, April 22.

It will be the only concert in Hampshire on the current tour, and will include a host of tracks, past and present.

Costello is known for his innovative and influential song-writing capabilities, which bestrides several genres.

The Brodsky Quartet are known both for a love and mastery of the classical quartet repertory, as well as pioneering collaborations with a diverse range of artists.

They worked with Costello on The Juliet Letters, which fused pop with chamber music. He also contributed vocally to the quartet’s expressive album, Moodswings.

In this performance they revisit The Juliet Letters and Moodswings, but also introduce some new songs arranged for voice and quartet.

The songs featured cover a wide range from folk ballads to Johnny Mercer and early hip-hop-influenced pieces such as Pills and Soap to the rock and roll number My Mood Swings, which appeared in the Coen Brothers movie The Big Lebowski.

The concert will also feature some surprise choices from Costello’s songbook, with selections drawn from 1979 to the present day.

Tickets for Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet are priced at £30.
