The Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions) (England) Regulations 2011

The Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions) (England) Regulations 2011
Notice is hereby given that each of the authorities mentioned below has published a notice containing the number that is equal to 5% of the number of local government electors for its respective council area, in the register having effect on the 15 February 2012.

Local Authority Hampshire County Council
Total local government electorate for each area 1,023,650
5% of electorate (the verification number) 51,183

Local Authority Winchester City Council
Total local government electorate for each area 92,383
5% of electorate (the verification number) 4,619

The verification numbers set out above will have effect for the purposes of determining the validity of petitions presented in the period of 12 months beginning with the 1 April 2012 seeking the holding of a referendum on the question whether the authority should change its governance arrangements.
In accordance with the regulations this information must be published annually. Where the number published in any year is less than the number published in the preceding year, the number to be used for verification purposes, in relation to any petition submitted to the respective authority in the period beginning on the date of publication of the lesser number and ending immediately before 1 April 2012, shall be the lesser number.
