A34 TRUNK ROAD BULLINGTON CROSS

THE A34 TRUNK ROAD BULLINGTON CROSS – KINGS WORTHY
TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT CARRIAGEWAY/ SLIP ROAD CLOSURES

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Secretary of State for Transport intends to make an Order on the A34 Trunk Road, north of Winchester in the County of Hampshire, under section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to authorise the overnight closure of both carriageways of the A34 between the ‘off’ slip roads at Bullington Cross (A30/A303) and its junction with the A33 (Basingstoke Road) at Kings Worthy, including the southbound ‘on’ slip road at Bullington Cross and the southbound ‘on’ slip road and the northbound ‘on’ slip road at Three Maids Hill Interchange (A272). These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake essential carriageway repairs and all associated work.
Access to or from premises accessible from, and only from, the carriageways to be closed would be permitted. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 4 nights over a 3 week period starting on or after Tuesday 30th August 2011 between 2200 and 0600 hours.
The Order would come into force on 27th August 2011 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months.
During the closures outlined above, southbound traffic affected would be diverted at Bullington Cross (A30/ A303), east on the A303 to its junction with the A30/A33 near Popham and southwest on the A33 to rejoin the southbound carriageway of the A34 at Kings Worthy; northbound traffic would be diverted to follow the same diversion route in the reverse direction; during the slip road closures at Three Maids Hill Interchange (A272), traffic affected would be diverted northwest on the A272 to its junction with the A30, northeast and north on the A30 to Bullington Cross (A34/A303) and then either follow the main southbound diversion route or continue north on the A34 at Bullington Cross and vice versa.
The carriageway closures, slip road closures, diversion routes and access arrangements would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works periods.
