AN electronics firm wants to build a 42ft mobile phone mast next to one of Romsey’s largest residential areas.
Plans are in the pipeline to construct a Vodafone base station on land at the corner of Braishfield Road and Winchester Road, backing on to the Great Woodley estate.
But the scheme, outlined by Tyco Electronics, has already been given a lukewarm reception by Romsey Town Council.
After discussing the matter at their planning committee, councillors decided to write to the company warning that residents may have health fears.
Cllr Mark Cooper told the Advertiser: “We are writing expressing our concern about people’s perception of it being unhealthy.
“As it is so close to the high-density housing, it was felt that people would be anxious.”
The base station would include a 12-meter mast with a two-meter aerial set on top.
A full planning application has yet to be submitted. Tyco was unavailable for comment.
