SOUTH Wonston Sustainability has announced that the recycling drop off point on Downs Road is now taking old mobile phones for recycling.

The recycled phones will go to Jamie’s Computers, who raise money for Hampshire homelessness charity The Society of St James. More information about recycling in South Wonston can be found on the South Wonston Sustainability website.

POLICE are holding an event for anyone with a new bike to have it marked and registered for free. The event will be at South Wonston Recreation Ground from 1pm to 2pm on Tuesday, January 23.

MICHELDEVER Variety Group has announced its Christmas production, Happy Ever After.

The play will run at Northbrook Hall, Micheldever from Thursday, January 25 to Sunday, January 28. There will be two performances on Saturday, January 27. Tickets are currently available to purchase online and cost £13 for adults and £10 for concessions (those under 12 and over 65).

The group’s Play in A Week will also be returning next year. Running from April 2 to April 6, the play will be Matilda. Places will cost £100 each. More information can be found on the Micheldever Variety Group website.

SOUTH Wonston Primary School currently has a vacancy on its governing body.

The team is made up of parents, teachers and representatives from the wider community, who meet regularly to set the strategy, policy and objectives for the school, overseeing school performance and ensuring resources are managed effectively.

SOUTH Wonston Parish Council is running a community café every Monday at South Wonston Pavilion. The café runs from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and offers free tea, coffee, biscuits and soup.

The café is open to everyone to have a friendly chat and enjoy the afternoon.

WONSTON Community Café will return on Wednesday, January 17. The café, at Victoria Hall, Sutton Scotney, will raise money for the Royal British Legion Women’s Section. Formed in 1921, the charity provides care for service personnel and their dependents.

The café will be open from 9.30am to 12noon and sells coffee, tea and homemade cakes. Parking at the venue will be free. The café is cash only.

The community café managed to raise more than £4,500 for 11 charities in 2023, through coffee and cake sales, and donations. In addition, some of the individual charities raised funds through their own fundraising on the morning, including raffles, sales of produce and collecting tins producing another £860 to add to the total for 2023.

SOUTH Wonston Sustainability will be hosting a climate hub at the end of January.

The event will take place on Sunday, January 28 at South Wonston Pavilion from 2pm to 4pm.

THE Micheldever Village Lunch will be returning on February 7. Taking place at Northbrook Hall from 12.30pm, places cost £4.50 for a freshly prepared two-course lunch, a glass of either sherry or wine and a coffee.
