A FIREFIGHTER suffered injuries to his eye after battling a blaze that destroyed a cottage.
More than 50 firefighters raced from across the county to deal with the fire in the roof of a picturesque thatched cottage.
Among the firefighters called out to the blaze in Petersfield were crews from Eastleigh, including a foam support unit and a command unit.
The alarm was raised at about 8.30pm last night.
Two people were treated at the scene by South Central Ambulance staff.
One of those was transferred to hospital for further medical attention.
Anyone with information on the incident can contact police on 101.
The fire last night comes only a few days after a thatched cottage at Nutley in the Candover Valley, north of Alresford, was destroyed in a similar incident.
