RESIDENTS of a Winchester road have been angered by a night time diversion of traffic past their homes.
The Highways Agency has been closing the M3 between junctions 10 and 12 for resurfacing work near Winchester and routing traffic through the city.
But people living in Chilbolton Avenue say the move between 10pm and 6am is disrupting their lives.
Trish Adams said: “There was no notification to residents about this diversion and the noise at night is unbearable.
From 10pm until 6am, HGVs and huge car transporters (some bound for Cowley Oxford) are travelling at great speeds with enormous amounts of noise, down Chilbolton Avenue, so that we cannot sleep, and we cannot safely get out of the driveways.
“It’s outrageous and similar to living on the hard shoulder of the M3,” she added.
The diversions are due to last until March 21.
A Highways agency spokesman said: “The Highways Agency is working closely with local authorities and the police to ensure the most suitable diversion routes are put in place as part of this necessary scheme to improve the M3. We appreciate that such vital work can not be implemented without some disruption and would apologise to anyone effected by this.”
