WINCHESTER Railway Station is set to undergo improvements over the next six months.
Network Rail plans to build a footbridge to connect both platforms and will also install lifts in each one.
Building is set to begin in July and be completed by December.
Although works are planned between 7.30am and 6pm, the company said some building would have to take place overnight due to the proximity to the tracks and live electrical equipment.
In a letter to residents, community relations manager Nick Gray said: “We can assure you our contractor is aware of the need to be respectful and considerate of our trackside neighbours and will carry out careful planning of the activities with this in mind. We will do everything we can to minimise the extent of the disruption, but some noise may be experienced.
“May we take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any disruption and inconvenience caused by our works.”
It comes as Winchester City Council is looking into a multi-million pound redevelopment of the Station Approach area to make it more attractive and encourage new business.
