YOUNG King's Somborne woman, Meg Jones, has been given the all clear this week, after having a pioneering operation in the summer to remove a brain tumour.

Meg, who travelled to America to have the high tech surgery, had her first MRI scan since the operation and has been told that her tumour has gone completely.

Stepdad, Peter Bulbeck, said 22-year-old Meg was "over the moon" at the news.

Meg's mum, Helen Bulbeck, added: "Even the neurosurgeon was excited about the fact her scan is clear. You can see a channel where Peter Black accessed her tumour to remove it - now the space is just a black hole. But there is no enhancement, which means that there is no sign of any cancer."

Meg, who has started an MA in Art History at the Courtauld Institute in London, will still have to have six-monthly scans to ensure her brain remains healthy.

Mrs Bulbeck, who set up the Brainstrust charity which raised the £50,000 for Meg's stateside operation, said Meg was doing well and added: "She is so bubbly and excited. I do miss her but this is where she should be - living in London with her friends and carrying on with living her life. We are just so grateful to everyone who made this possible. Now we need to make it possible for others too.

"This success story just makes it even more imperative that the treatments options for people in the UK are put on an equal footing with those of other countries."

She, and other trustees of Brainstrust, are now working to bring the pioneering surgery to the UK. She hopes to set up a specialist centre at The National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, where the operation will be available to patients here.

Even Meg's dog, Snatch, is doing her bit to make the centre of excellence a reality as she undertakes a sponsored walk from Haworth to Top Withens in the Pennines and back later this month.

The 12-year-old greyhound will be accompanied by Mr and Mrs Bulbeck, who hope to raise hundreds for the charity by making the four-hour round journey, which was walked by the Bronte sisters.

They have already raised around £200 and will set off on their journey on Saturday, October 20. To sponsor the trio, visit www.justgiving.com/snatchdog.
